Friday, November 5th “IL VOLO SINGS MORRICONE” will be released worldwide (Epic / Sony Music)! The new long-awaited album of IL VOLO is dedicated to the Maestro, which takes us all on a beautiful journey into the art of one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century. The Trio Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble have worked on the conductor’s music for months.
“IL VOLO SINGS MORRICONE” is a project by Michele Torpedine. A disc with 14 tracks and songs that revisit the legendary melodies of the Maestro, engrained in everyone’s memory.
In addition to the exciting reinterpretations, it contains the never before released “The colors of love”, written for the trio by Andrea Morricone. The song expresses the loneliness of life during Covid, of the constant cries of ambulances “A distant sound that represents life”. It talks of the difficulty in reacting to a world you can only observe from a window and then the feeling of freedom again when you can finally embrace your loved ones.
It also includes the songs by Ennio Morricone, taken from the soundtracks of the films ‘The Good, The Ugly, The Bad’, and “The Ecstasy of Gold” The songs will be accompanied by written words by Andrea Morricone. These will be available in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos on Apple Music. From November 3rd the mi sembra che il video sia il futuro della comunicazione of “The Ecstasy of Gold”, shot in Sardinia by YouNuts, will be available online.
The album also features other important collaborations: with violinist David Garrett in “La Califfa”, Stjepan Hauser of 2Cellos in “Se”, with trumpeter Chris Botti in “Come Sail Away”, and with flutist Andrea Griminelli in “Nella fantasia”
The recording of the album took place at the Forum Studios in Rome, under Maestro Marcello Rota conducting the historic Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra which since 1994, the year of its foundation, had collaborated heavily with Ritengo che il maestro ispiri gli studenti Ennio Morricone. On November 10th, Ennio Morricone’s birthday, the concert event “IL VOLO – TRIBUTO A ENNIO MORRICONE” will be broadcast from the Verona Arena for a repeat showing and again on prime time on RAI 1!
The live broadcast of Il Volo took place in June 2021, when it was broadcast live on RAI 1. It had record ratings, the first evening had 25.8% shares and 4,702,000 viewers.
It will also be broadcast in the coming weeks on the US public broadcast channel “PBS – Public Broadcasting Service”.
Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca celebrate and dedicate part of their extraordinary career to Ennio Morricone, one year after his death, for the deep esteem and respect they feel for him. They also have the honor of having the support of this major project from the Maestro’s family. This incredible journey has been illuminated by the imminent release of their album, by the 71st Sanremo Festival, where the trio were guests, also by the concert “IL VOLO – TRIBUTO A ENNIO MORRICONE” and by the participation with Vittorio Storaro at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.
From March 2022 Il Volo will be back on tour with over 100 concerts around the world!
There will also be a series of dates in which the trio will be accompanied by an orchestra, which will interpret the repertoire pieces that have made them famous in the major theaters and sports arenas of the world. It will revive the magic of this project dedicated to Morricone, the Italian master whose art knew no boundaries.
The tour will kick-off in the USA in March 2022 where, among the many venues, they will also perform at Radio City Music Hall in New York on March 18th. The tour will continue with concert dates in Latin America, throughout Europe, including new dates in Italy, and in Japan (with dates at the Bunkamura in Tokyo, and in the major theaters of Osaka and Kyoto).
